Enough scrolling through your phone! Just in time for the summer of love, the von Bartha team has put their heads together to come up with fantastic ideas to spice up your date life.

Whether you’re trying to impress someone new or take your loved ones out for some quality togetherness, dating is never out of fashion. So we asked the von Bartha team to suggest romantic activities they have in mind for such occasions. Due to the hot temperatures, most of the suggestions can be experienced in nature, and if you are a happy single, you can, of course, also enjoy them on your own.

Charm Someone in a Charming Old Town
Date idea by Yasmin Attar
Rheinfelden is a great place to go on a date. You can start by strolling through the charming old town with a scenic walk along the beautiful Rhein: be sure to visit the goat enclosure, where you can see some adorable goats. When your legs are tired, unwind at “Sole Uno” and enjoy a few hours of relaxation in the various pools and saunas. Treat yourself to a special massage, with soap foam, aromatic oils, salt, or lava stones. Whenever my partner and I have a free day, such a wellness day is the first thing that comes to mind.

Night at the Museum
Date idea by Caroline Baumhauer
My ideal date would be going to “Lange Nacht der Museen” (Engl.: Long Night of the Museums). In Zurich, usually happening in the first week of September, all institutions are open until 2 am and offer special events, often with food and drinks. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore new and unique places in this beautiful city while having plenty to talk about and bond over with your date. Then, end the night with a midnight (skinny) dip in the lake!

Upcoming:
Lange Nacht der Museen in Zurich: September 7, 2024
Museumsnacht Basel in Januray, 17, 2025
Museumsnacht Bern in March 21, 2025

The Way to Someone’s Heart Is Through Their Stomach
Date idea by Mamie Beth Cary
“You ate that first one and its flesh was sweet
Like thickened wine: summer’s blood was in it
Leaving stains upon the tongue and lust for Picking. ”
Excerpt from Blackberry-Picking by Seamus Heany

Whether it is strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or cherries, on a farm or foraging by the railway tracks, fruit picking is the perfect way to spend a few hours rambling, both in body and mind with someone you admire. Like for example here.

Romantic Twists to Iconic Art Techniques
Date idea by Silvan Koller
Embrace your artistic sides by covering yourselves in body paint and creating a large, unique painting together. Think of it as a romantic twist on Yves Klein’s iconic art technique. Set the mood with some soft music, lay out a large canvas, and let your naked bodies flow as you paint with them, capturing and celebrating the beauty of your connection.

Keep on Flowing
Date idea by Julia Paas
I would be most happy about an invitation to a date by the water—a walk on the beach, sailing, swimming in the Rhine, or even an ice bath in the lake in winter. Nothing gets your thoughts and conversations going like the presence of water. And, of course, you can enjoy delicious and invigorating drinks of all kinds afterward!

Break and escape!

Blowing off Steam Together
Date idea by Idil Mercan
First dates, second dates, and even fiftieth dates can be stressful or frustrating if things go wrong. Why not blow off some steam together or solve stressful tasks as a relationship challenge? In Break Out Basel, also known as the Escape Room, you can solve physical puzzles, smash walls, play games, and master the way out of the Escape Room together.

Take on the challenge together and strengthen your relationship!

Find Little Date Moments in Everyday Life
Date idea by Daniela Tauber
Being a couple of working parents often leaves little time for fancy dates in fancy locations; therefore, I cherish the little date – moments in everyday life the most. Having a good conversation in the early morning hours on our scratched kitchen table or stealing a small amount of time to have a drink together on a summer day at one of the countless beautiful spots in the mythical nature of the Black Forest region near Basel is the perfect date for me.

Date Yourself
Date idea by Linda Palazzo
As a single mum of three school-age children, I think it’s great when I can enjoy my bathtub alone on a Friday or Saturday evening. I also listen to various podcasts and enjoy a glass of wine. This allows me to relax and the housework is simply ignored for about 30 minutes.

Flower Picking Date
Date idea by Claudio Vogt
It is said that flower-giving communicates the deepest feelings in the most elegant manner, whether it’s love, joy, affection, appreciation, or apologies. Take your date onto a field of flowers and pick each other a bouquet of flowers. Tipp: If you aren’t ready to express your deepest feelings, then curate a bunch that fits their outfit. >> Flowerfields near Basel: Oberer Batterieweg, 4103 Basel; Allmendstrasse 72, 4058 Basel; Herrenweg 131, 4123 Allschwil

Inspiration for the idea: The movie "Begin Again"

You can tell a lot about a person by what’s on their playlist
Date idea by Hester Koper
I saw this in a cheesy movie, and I always wanted to reenact it! Since Bluetooth, the technicality of this date might have gotten a bit more complex, but I am sure there are headphones that allow a shared listening experience. Back in the day, you would have gotten a splitter (luckily, I still own one) to plug into your Walkman/Discman/iPod/iPhone and connected two headphones to it to simultaneously enjoy the same music in an encapsulated way. On the date, you would walk across town, going through each other’s playlists and enjoying the city to your very own soundtrack. Not only is this a good way to discover the other person (and their guilty pleasures), but also a great chance to dance without a party.

We look forward to hearing how your dates went.
