A film about von Bartha
In our 50th anniversary year, we captured the people, places and stories that make our gallery
This is the 50th year that the von Bartha family has had a gallery in Basel. Founded in 1970 by Margareta and Miklos von Bartha, in 2008, the gallery passed to the next generation, with Stefan von Bartha joining a Director. It is an ever-evolving space, driven by a passion for art.

For Stefan, it was a chance to share memories of his early years in the family business – a time when he’d often skip school, because he preferred the excitement of unpacking newly arrived artworks.
The film took place as we hung our anniversary exhibition: The Backward Glance can be a Glimpse into the Future – an exciting process, which nevertheless sparked the usual questions around finding storage space, and how to effectively hide cables…
