For The Armory Show 2020, von Bartha will present a dynamic and engaging booth, examining the concept of movement – both physical and illusionary. Focusing on elements of kinetic art, von Bartha will show modern works by Pol Bury, Gerhard von Graevenitz and Carlos Cruz Diez. By juxtaposing the past and present, von Bartha also seeks to highlight a younger generation of international artists such as Terry Haggerty, Imi Knoebel, Andrew Bick and Anna Dickinson. Through the presentation of renowned artists from the gallery’s 50 years history alongside contemporary artists currently gaining recognition from international public institutions, they plan to present a unique, inspiring stand at The Armory Show 2020. Kinetic, optical wall-based works by artist Gerhard von Graevenitz are put in dialogue with British artist Terry Haggerty. Graevenitz’ works are occasionally triggered through a motor, which allows a slow and conscious, almost hypnotic, movement. Although Haggerty’s body of work is static, a vibrant drive occurs through his precisely painted lines that indicate sequences of motion and create a complex illusion.
