Olle Baertling

1911 Halmstad, Sweden – 1981 Stockholm, Sweden

Abstract painter Olle Baertling was one of Sweden’s most seminal postwar artists. His works have a powerful optical effect, while appearing to extend beyond the two-dimensional canvas. Influenced by European non-figurative art from the 1940s and American Post-Painterly Abstraction, his geometric works are transcendental in nature and showcase his own kind of psychological imaging. In addition, Baertling envisaged an utopian future, which is reflected in his artworks.
