Florian Slotawa
b. 1972 in Rosenheim, Germany / Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
Florian Slotawa is a conceptual artist who works with sculpture and installation. Rather than creating new objects, the artist rearranges and recontextualises what already exists, so at the core of his work is the idea of intervention. Earlier on in his career, his medium was his own personal belongings – from pencils, clothes, furniture to his own car – which he then took photographs of in unexpected places. The artist changed his approach in 2002, when he sold all his belongings to a German collector – leaving no memory to his past. In his work public and private spheres collide – most often by bringing domestic objects into the public exhibition space.
